Revealing Wounds in Silence

This theatrical adaptation brings to life Salina, the acclaimed novel by Malaysia's National Laureate A. Samad Said, adapted and directed by Shah Zainal. Salina tells the story of a woman's resilience in the face of adversity, exploring themes of love, sacrifice and social survival in post-war Singapore.

Set in the aftermath of the Japanese occupation, Salina follows its central character, a woman of strength and vulnerability who endures social stigma, poverty and emotional turmoil. Living on the fringes of society, Salina faces judgement for her life as a prostitute, but remains strong in her care and compassion for those around her. Her journey is one of survival and selflessness as she supports others through their own struggles, forging deep and unlikely bonds with characters such as Hilmy, a young man searching for meaning, and Nahidah, a girl who finds safety under Salina's wing.

Through her story, Salina confronts the hidden scars of war, the harsh realities of social inequality and the quiet courage that people show in the face of despair. This play invites the audience to witness these deeply personal and universal struggles, and to be transported into the rich, lyrical world of A. Samad Said's masterpiece.

"Silence does not mean they feel nothing..."

Don't miss this powerful performance that reveals the resilience and humanity of its characters.
