The KKIFF
Since 2009, the Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF) has been bringing international movies to Sabah, promoting emerging regional filmmakers, and training young people for the film industry.
All screenings start at the scheduled times. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before the start.
The event program
Larissa Kovalchuk
Larissa Kovalchuk will perform on the bandura before the film.
Known for her exceptional soprano voice and the unique sound of the bandura, Larissa has thrilled audiences in Ukraine, Western Europe and Australia.
A graduate of the Kiev Conservatory and with a Masters in Education from the University of Sydney, she is now a senior voice teacher at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music (Australia).
The bandura, Ukraine's national instrument, has 65 strings and combines the sounds of a harp and a harpsichord.
The Stronghold
The Stronghold is a Ukrainian adventure/fantasy film. A solar eclipse activates a magical time portal and Vitko, an ordinary schoolboy from the 21st century, is transported back a thousand years in time. Vitko soon realises that he is with the legendary Bogatyrs, who have to defend themselves against the Cumans. The Cumans use weapons and black magic to try and destroy the Bogatyrs at any cost. Vitko finds himself in the midst of incredible events, battling a giant stone monster and acquiring true courage.
