Join us for an exciting celebration of Borneo's rich craft heritage at the Borneo Craft Festival!

Explore a wide range of authentic handicrafts from 60 artisans from Sabah and Sarawak, including textiles, forest products, metalwork, earth products and various unique crafts. This special exhibition showcases the cultural identity of Sabah and Sarawak.

Experience live craft demonstrations, from Ribu Ribu weaving and Lepa boat replica carving to intricate Ilang sword sheath carving and Empang beadwork creations.

Take part in a variety of fun visitor activities, including performances by artists and busking groups, competitions and traditional games.

For those interested in a career in the craft industry, find out more about enrolling at the National Craft Institute (IKN) and its Sabah Satellite Campus.

Craft Demonstrations

Ribu Ribu Weaving

This traditional craft uses natural palm fibres to create complex patterns, resulting in beautiful mats and baskets. It showcases the vibrant culture of Borneo through its colourful designs.

Lepa boat replica carving

Artisans demonstrate their skills by creating detailed miniature versions of the traditional Bajau boat. This craft highlights the cultural significance and craftsmanship of Borneo's maritime heritage.

Bemban Weaving

Using the fibres of the bemban plant, artisans create durable and decorative items such as mats and bags. This traditional technique reflects their ingenuity and creativity.

Ilang sword sheath carving

This involves the intricate design of wooden sheaths used to protect traditional swords. Each piece often features detailed motifs expressing cultural stories and beliefs.

Beadwork creations

This craft involves sewing colourful beads into intricate designs for jewellery and accessories. It showcases the creativity of the artisans and carries cultural significance from Borneo.
