Kaamatan Festival
Celebrated annually in Sabah, the Kaamatan Festival is a vibrant tribute to the state's indigenous culture and agricultural heritage.
Also known as the Harvest Festival, it's a joyous occasion marked by traditional rituals, lively performances and cultural displays. During this time, communities come together to give thanks for a bountiful harvest, pay tribute to the spirits of the rice field and seek blessings for future prosperity.
The festival features colourful ceremonies such as the 'Magavau' ritual, where rice wine is offered to the spirits, and the 'Unduk Ngadau' beauty pageant, which showcases the grace and charm of Sabah's young women. With traditional music, dance and delicious local cuisine, the Kaamatan Festival is a treasured celebration of Sabah's unity, heritage and abundance.
