The event program
Larissa Kovalchuk
Larissa Kovalchuk will perform on the bandura before the films.
Known for her exceptional soprano voice and the unique sound of the bandura, Larissa has thrilled audiences in Ukraine, Western Europe and Australia.
A graduate of the Kiev Conservatory and with a Masters in Education from the University of Sydney, she is now a senior voice teacher at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music (Australia).
The bandura, Ukraine's national instrument, has 65 strings and combines the sounds of a harp and a harpsichord.
Sweet Plastik
The island of Breuh is located in the northwest of Sumatra and is a rather forgotten region. During the ongoing monsoon season with its strong easterly winds, a lot of plastic waste washes up on the island's beaches, both international and national waste, and this is a huge problem for all the residents.
The process of creating this community art film project was always very spontaneous and based on traditional stories and anecdotes from the island's residents.
The film ends and also premiered in an open-air installation called "The International Museum of Plastic Waste". We had a party with almost all the residents of the village. There was a lot of laughter and smiles, and the shop owner sold sweets (in plastic packaging)!
Red, White and Brass
When Wellington Tongan superfan Maka fails to get tickets to a hometown Rugby World Cup match between France and Tonga, he will do whatever it takes to get tickets – even if that means promising to deliver a brass band for the pre-match entertainment. The only problem is – the band doesn’t exist and Maka has four weeks to make one! But his mates struggle with their lack of music skills and his elders are unconvinced by their performance.
