A Folk Tale of the Rungus people

The Rungus are an ethnic group indigenous to Sabah, Malaysia. They live mainly in northern Sabah, especially in the Kudat Peninsula, Kota Marudu, Pitas and Beluran. They have a distinct language, dress, architecture, customs and oral literature from other Dusunic sub-groups.

All students and the public are welcome to attend this dramatic performance.

Synopsis

The story tells of two poor siblings who have lost their parents. The eldest is a girl named Tonsung and the youngest is a boy named Goholu. Because of their poverty and the loss of their parents, they have to survive without help from others. Nobody cares about their lives, whether they have enough to eat or drink. Even their clothes never change, and they have often been cursed for their unattractive appearance.

Despite this, the brother and sister are very hardworking and get up early in the morning to look for food. When there is no one to hire them, Tonsung and Goholu go to the villagers' pendang to collect the fallen rice grains, they also go to the river to catch fish or to the forest to find vegetables and fruits. As for Tonsung, she is very agile in her work and Goholu is very strong and powerful.

One day, the chief of the long house invited Tonsung and Goholu to his son's wedding party. This event will change their lives.
