Embrace the spirit of Japan
Welcome to the "All Japanese Martial Arts and Culture Exhibition" presented by the Sabah Aikido Association in collaboration with the Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
During this event, five renowned Japanese martial arts disciplines will be showcased:
Aikido
Known for its fluid and circular movements, Aikido emphasises the redirection of an opponent's energy rather than brute force, making it a graceful yet effective martial art for self-defence.
Judo
With its roots in Jujitsu, Judo is a dynamic martial art that emphasises throws and grappling techniques. It emphasises the principle of using an opponent's strength and momentum against them, making it suitable for practitioners of all ages and sizes.
Kendo
A modern Japanese martial art derived from traditional swordsmanship, Kendo focuses on the disciplined practice of sword fighting using bamboo swords and protective armour. It instils values of respect, discipline and mental focus while honing physical skills.
Shorinji Kenpo
A blend of hard and soft techniques, Shorinji Kenpo emphasises practical self-defence through a combination of punches, kicks and joint locks. It also promotes the cultivation of inner strength and spiritual development.
Shotokan Karate
Originating from Okinawa, Shotokan Karate is characterised by its powerful, linear techniques and dynamic forms. It emphasises self-discipline and the development of both physical and mental strength.
