Bayu Utomo Radjikin

In the world of Malaysian fine art, the name Bayu Utomo is no stranger. Born in Tawau in 1969, of Javanese descent, has a very deep artistic soul. Holds a degree from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam.

Bayu can be said to be one of the 'complete' artists, holding good skills from sculpture or figurative painting from realism to abstract, the main highlight of Bayu's work, all of them are of high quality where he is an expert and skilled in every field he engages in.

At the beginning of his career, the works produced were directed towards international political tensions such as famine, war and social issues.
Until he reached a point where he felt that the subject was no longer connected to him.
Now he is more focused on personal identity / community, figurative drama and human emotions with bold brushstrokes and minimal use of color but strong enough to make a statement visually and conceptually.

He is also a member of the art group Matahati which was established in 1989 with four of his classmates with the objective to discuss and exchange ideas in forming ideal art ideas. In addition to holding exhibitions, Matahati also runs programs such as art workshops, residency exchanges, education and curatorship.
Now Bayu manages a fine art gallery, HOM (House of Matahati) Art Trans in Ampang which is an independent art space that strives to help and support the development of visual arts in Malaysia and facilitate networking with Southeast Asian counterparts.
